Appoline & Simeon Patout Foundation
The Appoline & Simeon Patout Foundation was organized as a private non-profit
foundation in January of 1990. The foundation was established through the efforts
of J. Patout Burns, Fathers Rivers Patout and Edwin S. Patout. They served on the
first Board of Directors along with William S. Patout and Anne Wall Bowman.
Generally, the Appoline & Simeon Foundation is funded through contributions
from family members who are descendants of Appoline and Simeon Patout. More specifically,
donations are solicited from the shareholders of M.A. Patout & Son, Ltd. M.A.
Patout shareholders have their annual meeting in Patoutville, Louisiana in November
of each year. M.A. Patout & Son, Ltd. has generously agreed to match all contributions
made during each fiscal year.
The Appoline & Simeon Foundation's purpose is to provide scholarships to eligible
high school students who have graduated and are pursuing a university degree or
students attending community colleges or trade school. Eligible students will receive
a stipend for each semester they maintain a 2.5 GPA.
Scholarship recipients are selected from students whose families work in the sugar
cane industry and whose parents have a connection with M.A. Patout & Son, Ltd.
Descendants of Appoline and Simeon Patout are not eligible for the scholarship.
Currently the Appoline & Simeon Foundation is providing scholarships to university,
community college, or trade school students at a rate of $500.00 per semester.
